Regime forces in Bahrain on Tuesday raided the house of the country’s leading Shia figure Ayatollah Sheikh Issa Qassem.

According to a statement by al-Wefaq al-Watani Islamic Society, tens of security forces entered the house early in the morning and started searching the house and destroying the family’s belongings, Sawt al-Manama reported.
The society held the Al Khalifa regime responsible for the attack and described the move as miscalculated.
A number of other opposition groups have also condemned the ‘barbaric’ attack, saying it will undermine the country’s security.
Today’s attack was the second raid by regime forces on the house of the senior cleric in Duraz region, west of Manama, and was likely a reaction to the failure of the sham parliamentary elections.
The opposition groups boycotted the parliamentary elections held on Saturday and instead conducted an anti-regime referendum across the Persian Gulf country from Friday to Saturday.
The Bahraini monarchy has been ruled by the Khalifa dynasty since 1783, in a country where the Shia Muslim community accounts for nearly 70 percent of the entire population.
Anti-regime protests have been underway in Bahrain almost on a regular basis since 2011.
The protesters demand the establishment of a democratically-elected government and an end to the regime crackdown.
Scores of people have been killed and many others put behind the bars in the Saudi-backed clampdown during the past three years.
