TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 18th edition of a Quran competition organized by the Iranian Cultural Center in India wrapped up in a ceremony at the center.

According to the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, the competition was held on the occasion of the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) birthday and Islamic Unity Week.

A number of Indian and Iranian political, religious and media activists attended the closing ceremony.

Addressing the event, Ali Dehgahi, Iran’s Cultural Attaché in India, elaborated on the importance of Islamic unity based on the Quran.

He also referred to organizing the contest, saying preparations were made for it since months ago.

He said 250 individuals from 16 states of India registered for the contest, 157 of whom competed in the categories of recitation and memorization of the Holy Quran.

Other speakers, including Mulana Muhammad Rafiq Qassemi, secretary of All India Islamic Society,  Hojat-ol-Islam Mohsen Taqavi, prayer leader of New Delhi’s main Shia mosque, Hojat-ol-Islam Mo0hammad Reza Saleh, head of Al-Mustafa International University’s India branch, and Mulana Mufti Muhammad Mukram Ahmed, prayer leader of Fathipouri Mosque in New Delhi, discussed various issues, including Islamic unity, the importance of following the teachings of the Quran, and the Seerah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

Later in the ceremony, the three top winners of the two categories were announced and awarded.

Winners of the first rank in memorization and recitation of the Quran will represent India in the international Quran competition of the Islamic Republic of Iran next year.
