TEHRAN (IQNA) – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad described his country’s ties with Iran and Iraq in the fight against terrorism as robust.

Assad made the remark in a meeting with the top military commanders of Syria, Iran and Iraq in Damascus on Monday.

In the meeting, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri said defending Syria against terrorism is defending Iran, Iraq, and other regional countries, too, because terrorism is a threat to the entire region.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Damascus, the Iranian commander had announced that the foreign forces stationed in Syria without coordination with the Damascus government should leave the Arab country.

On Monday, General Baqeri said at a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart that the fight against terrorists will continue until their full elimination.
