They carried banners of Ya Hussain (AS) – (Oh Imam Hussain- an Arabic phrase used by Shia Muslims to invoke the memory of Imam Hussain).
It was part of the mourning rituals organized by Shias worldwide every year on the last ten days of the lunar Hijri month of Safar.
The 20th day of Safar marks Arbaeen, which comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussain (AS).
The demise anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hassan (AS), the second Shia Imam fall on Safar 28th.
On the 30th day of the month, Shias mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Reza (AS), the eighth Shia Imam.
