Head of 36th Int’l Islamic Unity Conference Appointed

He was appointed in a decree by Hojat-ol-Islam Hamid Shahriari, the head of the Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought.

The next edition of the international event is slated to be held in Iran in October.

Iran annually hosts the conference in the Islamic Unity Week.

The 34th edition also held virtually last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

More than 160 foreign speakers from 47 countries as well as 120 Iranian figures delivered speeches at the video-conference in 2021.

The 17th day of Rabi al-Awwal, which falls on October 13 this year, is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month as the birthday of the last prophet.

The interval between the two dates is celebrated every year as the Islamic Unity Week.

Late Founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini (RA) declared the occasion as the Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.
