Yemen's branch of the ISIL terrorist group on Thursday claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing at a mosque in the Yemeni capital that killed at least 25 people, according to a statement posted on social media.
The Takfiri group said the attack at al-Balili mosque killed or wounded dozens of people.
The attack came as the Saudi-led coalition has ramped up air strikes against the impoverished Yemen, which started in March in a bid to restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a staunch ally of the Kingdom.
ISIL and the Yemen-based branch of its extremist rival al-Qaeda have exploited the turmoil to boost their activities in the impoverished country.
