TEHRAN (IQNA) – A ceremony was held in a village in south of Egypt to honor 175 Quran memorizers.

In the ceremony, held Friday on the occasion of the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) birthday, the memorizers of Quran marched on the streets of the village, named Fares, Akhbarelyom website reported.

There were 54 memorizers of the entire Quran among them, while 56 of them have memorized half of the Holy Book and the rest have learned one-third of it by heart.

They were wearing white robes and carried copies of the Quran with them during the ceremony.

The villagers chanted Takbir (Allahu Akbar: God is great) and lauded the Quran memorizers for their achievement.

In many Arab countries, marching to honor Quran memorizers is a custom aimed at encouraging people to learn the Quran by heart.

The Holy Quran is the only religious Scripture that is memorized by its followers.

Innumerable persons in every Muslim community have memorized the Quran since the first day it was revealed.

The Quran has 30 Juzes (parts), 114 Surahs (chapters) and 6,236 verses.
