IQNA – Saudi Arabia’s national Quran competition in its preliminary stage got underway on Monday.

Titled King Salman Holy Quran Award, the competition is held in the categories of Quran memorization, recitation and interpretation.

The Quranic event is aimed at encouraging young people to learn the Quran and enhancing their bond with the Holy Book through memorization and recitation of the Quran and reading its interpretation.

The contestants in different parts of the country will via for the top prize in several stages.

The final round is scheduled to be held in the lunar Hijri month of Shaaban (Feburary-March) in the capital Riyadh.

The winners will receive cash prizes totaling 7 million Saudi riyals, according to organizers.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance annually organizes the Quranic event.
