IQNA – A deputy speaker of the Israeli regime’s Knesset has sparked outrage by saying that “Gaza and its people must be burned.”

In an interview with Kol Barama radio station, Nissim Vatur said he had “no pity” for the Palestinians living in the besieged territory, which has been under relentless Israeli attacks since October 7.

“Gaza and its people must be burned,” he said.

He later claimed in a post on X, a social media platform, that his remarks were aimed at “the elimination of the terrorists who remained in Gaza”, and that “all citizens were evacuated to the south a long time ago”.

However, according to the United Nations, an estimated 800,000 Palestinians still reside in northern Gaza, where they face dire humanitarian conditions and frequent Israeli attacks.

Since October 7, more than 23,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed by the Israeli regime’s brutal military campaign in Gaza, which was triggered by a surprise operation by Palestinian resistance groups in the occupied territories.

The indiscriminate Israeli bombing has also destroyed most of the civilian infrastructure in Gaza, forcing some 1.9 million Gazans to flee their homes and seek shelter in overcrowded and unsanitary facilities.

This is not the first time that Vatur, a hardline politician, has called for “burning” Gaza. On November 8, he wrote on X: “All of this preoccupation with whether or not there is internet in Gaza shows that we have learned nothing. We are too humane. Burn Gaza now no less!”

He also insulted the people of Gaza by saying: “The people of Gaza cannot be described as animals because animals are better than humans.”
