Forum Discusses Quranic Studies in Russia

IQNA – A forum was held at the international section of the 31st Tehran International Quran Exhibition to discuss Quranic studies in Russia.

Hojat-ol-Islam Seed Reza Moadab, dean of the theology faculty of the University of Qom, addressed the forum, which was organized by the International Research and Education Center of the Islamic Seminaries.

The cleric noted that Russia has a population of 142 million, with Orthodox Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Judaism having the largest number of followers in the country.

He said the Russian people are generally interested in spirituality and the success of religion in Russia will depend on the present of competent clerics.

Hojat-ol-Islam Moadab also referred to the Islamic University of Moscow, noting that it is a member of the World Council of Islamic Universities.

It has been established with the aim of coordinating religious activities in the Caucasus, Tatarstan and Bashkortostan, he added.

He said students at the Islamic University of Moscow learn Quran, Tafsir (Quran interpretation), Quranic sciences, Hadiths, Seerah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), Islamic ethics, and Fiqh.

They also study books in the fields of philosophy, economics, psychology, educational sciences, history of Russia, etc, he stated.

According to Hojat-ol-Islam Moadab many of the university’s graduates are now serving as imams and Muftis in Russia and other countries.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he stressed the need for training talented seminary students who are fluent in Russian and can write Quranic and Islamic books in the Russian language.

The 31st edition of the Tehran International Holy Quran Exhibition was officially launched in a ceremony on March 20.   

It has been attended by representatives from 25 countries.

The Tehran International Quran Exhibition is annually organized by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance in the holy month of Ramadan.

The exhibition is aimed at promoting Quranic concepts and developing Quranic activities.

It showcases the latest Quranic achievements in the country as well as a variety of products dedicated to the promotion of the Holy Book.
