Iran’s 45th Nat’l Quran Contest Finals Launched in Ahvaz

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A ceremony was held in Ahvaz, the capital of southwestern province of Khuzetsan, on Thursday to inaugurate the 45th edition of Iran’s National Holy Quran Competition.

A large number of people as well as Quranic, cultural, political and other officials attended the inauguration yesterday evening.

It began with playing of the Islamic Republic of Iran national anthem and then Qassem Moqaddami, a renowned qari, recited verses from the Holy Quran.

Next, Seyed Karim Mousavi, a prominent qari from Khuzestan, performed some Ibtihal recitation and also recited poems in praise of Hazrat Zahra (SA).

A number of officials, including representative of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in the province, delivered speeches at the ceremony, highlighting the importance of understanding and acting upon the Holy Quran’s teachings and promoting the Quranic culture.

A Tawasheeh (religious singing) performance and commemorating Foad Mash’ali, Amin Bavi and Saeed Saeedizadeh, three Quran reciters from Khuzestan who were martyred in the 2015 Mina Disaster, were other parts of the inauguration ceremony.

The contenders will start competing in the final round in the morning and afternoon sessions starting on Friday.

They will vie for the top prize in the categories of Quran recitation, Tarteel, memorization of 20 Juzes of the Quran and memorization of the entire Quran.

The competition is annually held by the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization with the participation of top Quran activists from across the country.

It is aimed at discovering Quranic talents and promoting Quranic activities in society.
